Welcome, sweet friend. Heirloom & Thread is a warm online academy for children's heirloom sewing — taught gently by Shonda, for the unsure, the reluctant, the scared, and the nervous. From your very first stitch to heirloom mastery, she calms the fear of uncertainty and builds confidence you never knew you had. No rush. No judgment. Just love, made with thread.
“Every heirloom starts with a nervous breath. We'll take the next one together.”

Hi, I'm Shonda
I grew up watching my grandmother sew at her kitchen table, and my mother carry the tradition forward. When my own two daughters came along, I sewed for them too — every Easter dress, every Sunday smocked bishop, every little nightgown.
Now I sew for my granddaughters, Eleanor and Mary-Margaret. And I'd love nothing more than to teach you to do the same — whether you've never threaded a needle, or you've been sewing for years and want to finally try heirloom techniques.
“She didn't believe she could. Until someone believed in her first.”
“For the woman who whispers ‘I can't’ — but secretly hopes she can.”
Never sewn a stitch? you're in good hands.
You don't need to be talented or patient. You only need to want to make something beautiful with your own two hands.
We start gently
Threading a needle. Choosing fabric. Listening to your machine. No skipping ahead, ever.
We sew together
Step-by-step lessons you can rewatch as often as you need. A community ready to cheer you on.
We finish proudly
Your very first heirloom dress — pressed, finished, and ready to be loved and worn.
“She believed she couldn't. Then she sat down at the machine.”
"Every dress my hands have ever stitched was made for someone I love. I will teach you to do the same — gently, and without hurry."
— Shonda, founder
"An heirloom isn't perfect fabric — it's the willingness to begin."
